How much of a goober does it make me that one of the highlights of the whole trip was the shower I took when I got back last night?
As expected, the weekend was super fabulous. In addition to Tass, there's a whole group of people in the skirmish community that she knows who I've gotten to know a bit (Hi A!) and they are just awesomeness. C and I arrived right after dark Friday night and managed to find the tank and the sea of tents. However, in the dark, all the campers and tents look like each other. No problem, we'll call. And... no service. Had I been by myself, I would have slept under the car. Fortunately, C and I just laughed and figured we'd start walking and calling and eventually we'd find our peoples. I got the babiest of reception bars and managed to call and people were found, hugs exchanged, good times began. We actually ended up leaving in search of dinner and I was able to introduce C to the wonder that is Waffle House. Mmmmmm sausage, egg and cheese wrap. You are so good.
Listened to Tass issue commands from her tower on Sat and indulged in the Bolthouse farms cookies for breakfast. Read, relaxed, played with the pups, enjoyed the sun. Drove into town for dinner, stumbled upon an entire contingent of eldery people in the middle of the road and found out that the Air Force band was going to give a concert. Headed off to dinner in our grubby camping clothes and the white tablecloth Italian restaurant promptly sat us in the back corner :) Food was actually really good and we toasted Tass' being born and watched someone in a tiger costume do a jig outside the restaurant window. Sadly, we dallied so long at dinner that we missed the performance.
Tass was wiped so she and the guy turned in early and C and I ended up getting in a discussion with these two guys about fatherhood and life in your 40s and who knows what else till after midnight. Random. They were cracking us up though.
Headed out yesterday afternoon and knew we'd need to stop and eat and get gas so when talking about where to go, C mentioned going back to Waffle House.
I've converted another one.
